Mary Liebowitz is working with sculptural artist Hans Henrik Ohlers, currently branching out from quiet Scandinavia into the US.   "Americans are so creative when it comes to public space.  Look at New York's Central Park on a spring day -- it's a beautiful, rolling landscape, with people everywhere, just enjoying its peace and its contrasts" says Ohlers.     "All over the US, you can find gorgeous neighborhood parks with just a spot of green, or a simple bench that makes fantastic use of a good view.  Playgrounds are so well-used.  I love seeing families together, biking or rollerblading, and I think, wow, wouldn't it be great to design something in this space to give people something engaging to talk about and just crawl around on with their kids".   Ohlers creates oversized, organic sculptures that both awaken the senses and augment the landscape's natural beauty.  His giant dome structures sit like serene, overturned seashells, inviting children to explore the surface and clamber across.  His pieces produce a natural filter for light and weather, forging beautiful artistic creations that enhance their surroundings.   His work can usually be found in parks and public spaces dotted around Copenhagen, or in music studios, where he builds sleek, custom pieces for sound equipment.  Each project is a total full-body experience for Ohlers, who pulls and coaxes his structures into every direction.  His disposition is warm and engaging, and he seems to connect with his projects on such a deep and personal level.   "You can say I live a very full life", Ohlers laughs.  "I'm never bored.  I see beauty everywhere, and I'm completely happy that way".   For upcoming North American projects, Hans Henrik Ohlers can be reached by email at mail(at)ohlers(dot)com, or by phone (+45) 23 444 333.  His website is here:  http://www.ohlers.com/   Click on the link below to view some of Hans Henrik Ohler's work, including a theater project in progress.
